"We have to accept a circumstance that the boundary between essential and non-essential elements is not as distinct as was considered in traditional plant physiology and ecophysiology. There is a less well-defined and maybe large intermediate group of elements, such as the REEs, which can be favourable, though not absolutely essential to life, under some conditions, at certain concentrations or amounts, in some chemical form(s) and at least to some species of organisms, including vascular plants". Germund Tyler in Plant and soil
A low dose of rare earth elements may promote growth and yield of several crops, so appeared from quite a few studies. Especially Chinese scientists for years and years investigate the effects of these elements. In a soon to be published scheme some of the found effects on plants will be summarized.
